It is with regret that the Ryan Smyth Community Foundation Tournament
committee had to make a difficult decision to postpone the tournament until December 2018.
When we began our planning we were led to believe that invitations for the
tournament should go out to US and out of province teams in the late summer. We have since discovered that this is too late in their planning to include a tournament into their hockey season. They are in fact planning now for next year.
As we were not able to find teams outside of Alberta who were able to commit to the tournament this season we had to make the decision to postpone until next season. The good news is that we are in very good shape to host this tournament next year and make it the world class event that we have envisioned. We already have commitments from Canadian teams outside Alberta and in the US for next year and are very excited about the special events we are planning that pertain to both coaches and players.
We understand that the Squires were excited about this tournament and it is unfortunate that they will not be able to include this tournament in their season. Please know that the committee members exhausted every avenue to make this tournament a go before finally deciding that the only option was to postpone until next year. This being said we are hoping that next years Squires will consider making the Ryan Smyth Community Foundation Tournament a part of their season for December 2018. In the very near future we will be sending you a preliminary package with tournament details.
Thank you so much for your patience and understanding.
The RSCFT committee
